Cryptocurrency: Global giant Paxful focuses on Africa

Cryptocurrency: Global giant Paxful focuses on Africa

The rise of the Paxful brand has been as meteoric as the expansion in the popularity of the blockchain technology and cryptocurrency market. Since its inception in 2015, Paxful has built a solid track record based on its proven capacity to make Bitcoin trading easier by removing the middleman and creating a peer-to-peer market for direct trading. Cofounded by Egyptian entrepreneur Ray Youseff, the USA-based firm has grown its number of transactions in Africa to 6.5million as at January 2019.

The numbers tell the story better. Within a short period, Paxful’s popularity has grown globally to 2.5 million users. More interesting is the fact that a majority of its users are young Africans below the age of 35 who are finding more areas for cryptocurrency application.

“The people of Africa have been the most ingenious and resourceful of our users – they are redefining our understanding of the uses of bitcoin. The world has much to learn from Africa about the future of the crypto-economy”, said Benjamin Onuoha, Paxful’s Africa Regional Consultant at a recent event in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Trade in Bitcoin is defined by the excitement of new value, new wealth, new possibilities and new frontiers. But there’s a flip side: dishonesty and fraud by people who want to get rich fast by cutting corners. In this regard, Paxful is playing a key role in making blockchain more attractive for newcomers by cutting out the middlemen, broadening the scope of transactions and reducing the opportunities for fraud. In this sense Paxful is giving the market exactly what it wants – variety and security. The bottom line is that Paxful is giving customers and prospects access to bitcoin safely, securely, and at a fair price.

Small wonder Paxful describes itself as the “PayPal + Uber’. The site makes it possible for users to buy bitcoin instantly with debit, credit, cash, PayPal, or just about any currency, as well as with a wide selection of gift cards and other digital currencies. Users do not require a bank account to transact on Paxful. For a new technology competing against older, established technologies and currencies, this is a masterstroke in financial inclusion, a market redefining strategy that sets Paxful apart from traditional bitcoin exchanges. Paxful looks set to lead the drive for financial inclusion to the over 2.5billion people worldwide without access to conventional means of banking, using Africa as its launching pad.
With over 100 employees around the world and offices in New York City USA, Hong Kong, Tallinn Estonia and Manila Philippines, the global brand’s focus on Africa may not be unconnected to the critical figures of financial inclusion and unemployment, as well as the size of the continental market.

In Africa, a whopping 370 million people still remain unbanked and unserved out of the total population of 590 million. With banks coming up with new ridiculous reasons to force customers to part with their hard-earned cash, Paxful completely unbundles the market for users, making it possible for them to exchange a host of items as listed above for Bitcoin. Nigerian users will certainly find the features on Paxful very useful and the numbers show an increasing number, especially in the youth demographic, are embracing the platform.
Artur Schaback, chief operating officer of Paxful, said African consumers tend to use cryptocurrency to buy goods, mostly from overseas, as well as investments in promising blockchain startups.
“As a company, we’ve learned a lot from African consumers. For instance, we’ve improved our mobile capabilities to cater to the widespread use of smartphones on the continent. Our experience in Africa has strengthened our capability to serve consumers regardless of geographical location or origin,” he explained.
With an estimated value of $64.5m traded monthly in Africa Alone, Paxful is now targeting university students in some African countries, luring them with information on crypto-trading and free wallets with free Bitcoin.

In South Africa and Kenya, Paxful has spent the better part of 2019 touring the countries, stopping at universities to educate students about Bitcoin.
The firm has been hosting workshops throughout 2019 and it believes that by educating students about the Bitcoin economy, it will encourage entrepreneurship in the sector.
“As a values-driven company, we want to make the bitcoin economy accessible for everyone, especially the youth. To this end, we would like to reach as many young people as possible to help them understand the digital currency market and transact safely and with confidence,” explains Youssef.

The workshops are not stopping in South Africa and Kenya. Welcoming both Bitcoin novices and experts, Paxful aims to increase access to the crypto-economy in Africa, especially the youths.
Paxful’s deepening Africa strategy is anchored on solid numbers. According to Forbes, the platform saw its transaction volume increase by 130% in 2018, driven by a growth of activity among African users. The surge in figures was due to Paxful’s user base tripling in Ghana, with the opening of 41,243 accounts, and Nigeria’s accounts more than doubling to 321,476.
It’s amazing to see how they have been utilizing the website,” said Youssef regarding Paxful’s users in Africa. “They use it to send money to their family for e-commerce, importing and exporting. They conducted more than six million trades last year compared to North America with 3.9 million. This only shows that people will embrace changes if you provide them with a platform that can support that.”
Paxful’s user-friendly features are driving this increase. For instance, users can access Paxful’s website via a “virtual kiosk link” that any person or website owner can use. The kiosk is basically Paxful’s affiliate program, allowing people to spread the word about Paxful while generating a 2% revenue from any amount bought.

The process is simple and straightforward. To buy Bitcoin on the platform, simply choose the amount of Bitcoin you want to buy, choose the currency you want the exchange rate to be in, select a payment method (there are dozens), choose a seller and click “Trade”. Follow the instructions for payment and click “Mark as paid”. Wait for the seller to release the Bitcoin.
Paxful’s processes are very proactive in identifying and dealing with users with dodgy intentions and is totally committed to ensuring that anyone found guilty of malpractice on the platform is dealt with. Youseff in a recent chat said “Paxful is doing and always will do what is in the best interest of our responsible customers and will continue to implement best-in-class procedures despite any blowback from specific users and groups. We take these allegations very seriously and have a zero-tolerance policy for fraud and illicit activity of any kind on our platform.”
One of the measures deployed by Paxful to secure transactions is an escrow service. Once a buyer finds a seller and the offer is accepted by the seller, the Bitcoin are automatically moved from the vendor’s wallet to escrow. At this point, the seller can’t cancel the trade. However, the buyer has a limited time frame to deliver the money to the seller and mark the payment as ‘complete. If the buyer fails to do that in the given time frame, the deal will be automatically cancelled and the Bitcoin will be returned to the seller’s wallet.

When both the buyer and the seller have verified that the transaction has been confirmed and all the terms have been met, the money will be released to the buyer’s wallet and the deal will be concluded. If at any point there will be a disagreement between the two parties, the process will move along to dispute. Paxful moderators will then investigate all the info, consider all the available details and finally make a decision to whom the bitcoins will be awarded. Having said that, in most cases transactions go through smoothly thanks to Paxful’s intense moderation that clamps down on potential scammers.
As effective as these processes have generally proved, Paxful is still not satisfied. It continues to seek new ways to make them better. In April it announced that it has teamed up with Jumio, a digital identity and address verification company in order to improve Anti-Money Laundering (AML) procedures and implement Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements in the marketplace. Jumio’s AI-powered Trusted Identity Service and verification process, Paxful believes, will help minimize risk and ensure all users have submitted proper documentation.
“We take compliance and security very seriously here at Paxful. We’re hoping that these and other upcoming changes will help our customers understand the importance of regulation and compliance when it comes to operating on a peer-to-peer finance marketplace,” said Lana Schwartzman, Chief Compliance Officer at Paxful
Beyond profit making, Paxful is also focused on giving back.

In 2018, Paxful launched the #BuiltwithBitcoin charitable initiative to demonstrate bitcoin’s ability to help people around the world. Paxful set a goal to build 100 schools, water wells, and community gardens for sustainable agriculture all across the continent of Africa and funded entirely by bitcoin donations. On July 18 2019 and in honor of the Nelson Mandela International Day, Paxful donated over 13,000 South African rands worth of bitcoin to the GROW with Educare Centre project as their first charitable contribution to South Africa.
Projects like these demonstrate the usefulness of bitcoin as not only a currency but a successful vehicle for the development of remote regions around the world.

Nigerians To Protest Against Buhari At UN General Assembly – Timi Frank reveals

Nigerians to protest against Buhari at UN General Assembly- Frank
…Demand release of Chibok Girls, Leah Sharibu, Sowore, others
A political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has revealed plans by prominent Nigerians in Diaspora to stage a massive apolitical protest against General Muhammadu Buhari at the forthcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) slated for 17th of September, 2019.

He said the protest is aimed to demand for the release of all political prisoners under the APC’s administration, freedom for the remaining Chibok girls, Leah Sharibu, Omoyele Sowore, Sambo Dasuki and Ibrahim El Zazaky.

Other demands by organizers of proposed apolitical protest include; to put a stop on killings by Fulani herdsmen, ensure respect for the rule of law, provision of adequate security, for Nigerians, stop human rights abuses and to ensure that government stops interfering, harassing and intimidating the Nigerian judiciary.
Other objectives are to put a stop to nepotism in the country, and more importantly, to urge the United States of American to include the Chief of Army Staff and other Nigerian Service Chiefs in the Visa ban already proposed for those that aided the rigging and violence that characterized the 2019 general elections.

A statement released to newsmen by Comrade Timi Frank, in Abuja on Wednesday, said the current administration does not practice democracy and as such does not allow protest in Nigeria.
“We urge all Nigerians in diaspora to come out and protest and the UN General Assembly in New York to make General Buhari understand that Nigeria belongs to all of us. This apolitical protest is to save Nigeria from further destruction by General Buhari whose sole aim is to Islamise Nigeria.
“A protest date will be communicated later, however Nigerians in diaspora should brace up for this mother of all protests as this is an opportunity to let the world know about the plight of Nigeria and Nigerians.

“All regional groups including IPOB, Ohanaeze, Afenifere, etc, in diaspora should take part in this apolitical protest to bring to the knowledge of the world, the sufferings, human right abuses and oppression being meted out to Nigerians by Gen. Buhari.”
The statement also called on the International Community to take note that Gen. Buhari has a pending case in the Presidential Election Petition Court where the legitimacy of his mandate is being challenged and until the judgment is given by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, he should not be addressed as President but as former Military General.

“No world leader will accept or perpetrate the kind of killings, impunity and lawlessness being meted out to Nigerians in Nigeria by General Buhari’s government which does not allow freedom of expression – one of the fundamental human rights of a citizen in any democracy.
“Finally we appeal to Nigerians in diaspora, especially those in USA to come out en-masse and join this forthcoming Save Our Soul protest. Let us show love to our brothers and sisters back home who have been caged and are not allowed to express their views freely.
“Henceforth, Nigerians in diaspora should come out en masse and protest against Gen Buhari and his lackey Yemi Osibanjo in any country they may visit as there is no peace for the wicked.
“#FreeNigeriaprotest is the beginning of rescuing Nigeria from tyranny under General Buhari,” he said.

He further called on Nigerians resident in other parts of the world and who can afford it to make their way to New York during the UNGA to join the protest as no sacrifice is too great to pay for the rescue of the country from, tyranny, wickedness and anti-democratic elements now in the saddle of governance.

Signed
Comrade Timi Frank
Political activist
Abuja.

Afrobeat Singer, Molexy To Make Comeback With Takeover Music, ‘Halleluyah’
Multi-talented Nigerian singer, Moses Ekege, popularly called by his stage name, Molexy is ready to premiere brand new music, titled ‘Halleluyah’.
Molexy is not a new name in the music industry, he has been active since 2012 when he professionally ventured into music. Having churned out some hit songs, the amazing singer, in 2014, released ‘Fake Story’, a song that got him more fans in his home country, Nigeria.
Since releasing the widely applauded song, ‘Fake Story’, Molexy didn’t get carried away by the momentum that came with the song, he decided to embark on long hiatus, he chose a path that will sustain his music and make him more relevant in the industry by taking the break to learn more and perfect his musical expertise in all aspects required of him.
The incredible afrobeat singer is now ready to make a comeback with a Liquid Mix-produced music, ‘Halleluyah’. He has also boasted that the upcoming release will stand the test of time and takeover the entertainment industry.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the new single, Molexy said, “coming from the street to my present stage is indeed God’s favour, I want to use the song to appreciate God and all he has done for me. ‘Halleluyah’ tells my grass to grace story, which I’m very grateful for.”
When asked if the song is a gospel song due to its title, Molexy responded by saying, “if you call ‘Halleluyah’ a gospel song, it qualifies so, because the lyrics are in line with gospel. The lyrics came from the innermost part of me that connected with my emotions and appreciative mind of all God has done for me.”
Molexy is not threatened by the standard of what we have in the industry. It’s been five years since he last released a song for his fans and the industry that we currently have has changed a lot from what it used to be back then. Speaking on the music industry, he said;
“I know a lot has changed, during my break, I didn’t just go to bed to sleep, I was working underground and trust me, as the industry was evolving, I was also growing in one thing or another. So, I’m confident and fully back to doing music.”
The awaited ‘Halleluyah’, according to Molexy will be released very soon, but didn’t reveal the date he’ll be dropping the song.

Housemates And Africans Were Stunned By Dj BeeJordan Performance At #BBNaija Season 4 OPPO Surprise Party

Housemates in the ongoing BBNaija season four staged an epic fashion show as part of their runaway task on the 8th of August, 2019. In line with the theme, the “Pepper dem” gang ended the event with a talk-of-the-town party that kept the whole of Africa on their feet.
Over 6 weeks Africa Big brother lovers Saturdays is not complete without the Saturday party live and direct from the biggies house. Like so many twists that have occurred during this year Big brother Naija show, a party was staged on the 8th of August, 2019 as part of the task by OPPO Mobile one of the sponsors of the program.
Music is the food of the soul, and for one to be able to take a full dosage of the nutrients the heart needs. A DJ is a Nutritionist that helps to prepare the right nutrients (Music) needed to spice up the party. And the DJ that kept the whole of Africa and not the housemates on their toe for over an hour dancing to the music that he churned out is DJ BeeJordan.
If you missed the party and want to know how it all went down on the 8thof August 2019 kindly check the replies given by Nigerians to the party from the tweet below.
Dj BeeJordan changed the atmosphere, a lot of people have been complaining about the low energy of the housemates at the previous parties, but DJ BeeJordan energized the whole housemates, the gbedu was so good that the most boring housemates caught fire.
Dj BeeJordan stepped up his game and surprised the housemates by playing traditional music from the major ethnic group in Nigeria. Mercy, Enkay and Cindy could be seen vibing to the Ibo songs blasting from the wheels of Dj BeeJordan, while Seyi, Sirdee and other Yoruba housemates vibed to their traditional music which is the Wasiu consolidation which made them lose control and threw their home training to the wind on this faithful Thursday night.

Mike popularly referred to by his fans as Mikings added spice to the party with his hilarious moves that can rival a lot of cartoon characters’ dance move. Tacha, the characteristics girl, gave his signature social media ass moves to pepper viewers. Noticeably silent despite the “gbedu” coming out from DJ BeeJordan on his wheel is Mercy, as the dressed worn at the OPPO runaway fashion show disturbed her from showcasing her dance moves.
Drawing conclusions from the reaction of various viewers on social media, it’s safe to say that DJ BeeJordan did an excellent job on the well and made everyone stayed glued to their screen throughout the party. The housemates got disappointed when the party ended.
Dj BeeJordan is popularly known for his Disc Jockey skills; Dj BeeJordan performs at notable corporate and private events such as weddings, parties, ceremonies in Nigeria and across the globe.  Stay glued to @djbeejordan on all social media platforms.

Dino melaye: Tribunal’s judgement a distraction- Timi Frank

A political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Timi Frank, has discribed the tribunal judgement sacking Dino Melaye as senator representung Kogi west as a distraction from his governorship ambition
Frank expressed optimism that Appeal Court will do justice to the case.

Reacting in a statement on Friday to the trinunal judgement sacking and ordering fresh election in Kogi west senatorial district, Timi Frank, urged Dino Melaye’s constituents to be resolute and be rest assured that the outspoken Senator truly won his election.

Frank, while commending the chairman of the panel “for standing by the truth,” added that “all efforts by the desperate All Progressives Congress to remove the best performing Senator from the red chamber will fail woefully at the Appeal Court.

“Lies may succeed for a while but the truth will surely prevail. I urge the vibrant Senator Melaye not to lose focus, believe in God of justice and surely bear in mind that all his enemies will be put to shame.”

Frank, who also called on Melaye’s constituents to stand by him and not allow “evil to prevail on their worthy representative,” said the Senator’s governorship ambition should not be threatened by the tribunal judgent which he described as ‘distraction.’
The political activist revealed that the ruling APC elements were behind the ‘miscarriage of justice’ at the tribunal on Friday, “because they are afraid that if Senator Dino Melaye finally secure the governorship ticket of the PDP, he will certainly win the election and uproot APC in Kogi state.”
