Journalist who posted IGP Ibrahim Idris’ viral “transmission” video goes into hiding

A Liberty Television journalist, Aminu Nurudeen, suspected to have posted the viral video showing the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, struggling to read a speech at a public event in Kano, has gone into hiding, Saturday PUNCH has learnt.

Impeccable sources told Saturday PUNCH that the Kano State Police Command invited the reporter to its office immediately the video went viral. The video, shows the IG struggling to read his speech at the inauguration of the Police Technical Intelligence Unit in Kano, Kano State on Monday.

It was learnt that Nurudeen’s whereabouts had been unknown since the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Musa Magaji Majiya, invited him on Thursday.

Sources said the police authorities were upset with the journalist because he had allegedly disobeyed a directive by the Kano State Police Command to journalists present at the event not to report the IG’s blunder or make the video public.

According to sources, the IG’s blunder brought an abrupt end to the event, leading the police chief’s handlers to hurriedly usher him away from the venue of the event.

The viral video showed the IG delivering an incoherent speech, which had since exposed him to public ridicule.

In a part of the transcription of the footage, Idris said, “I mean, transmission, I mean effort, that the transmission cooperation to transmission, I mean transmission to have effect, ehm, apprehend, I mean, apprehensive towards the recommendation, recommended formation effective and effect, I mean, apprehensive at the transmission of…and transmission and transmission for the effective in the police command.”

Voice of Liberty had posted the video on Wednesday. It was gathered on Friday that the IG was embarrassed by the trending video and had ordered an investigation into its release.

In the video, the police boss stumbled over nearly every word in the address, pronouncing transition as transmission and generally bungling his remarks.

The over two minutes video showed Idris apologising to the audience intermittently as he struggled to read the speech which appeared to be a few pages long.

As he battled to read the speech, a senior police officer moved to his side to assist him, but he still flunked the speech.

A source said that the IG explained away the video to his officers, describing it as doctored.

“He has however ordered an investigation into the leakage of the video but we are watching to see how he intends to deal with the individuals behind the viral video without further embarrassing himself and the force,” a senior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told one of our correspondents.

It was gathered that detectives were using the police technical platform to track the original source of the video on social media.

It was learnt that bloggers that posted the video might be interrogated by the police for allegedly “peddling a doctored video meant to cast the IG in bad light and embarrass the police leadership.”

Idris, in an interactive media chat on the police Twitter handle, Nigerian Police @PoliceNG #Askthepolice, had also told Nigerians that the video was doctored.

“Yes, it was doctored,” he said in response to a question from a twitter user who wanted to know why he bungled the speech.

The mood at the Force headquarters on Friday was solemn as policemen believed the video was sponsored by the enemies of the IG.

“I believe the IG may not be the most intelligent officer, but he is capable of presenting coherent speeches,” a Deputy Superintendent of Police who also spoke on condition of anonymity said.

The police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood could not be reached for comments as he did not respond to calls.

He had yet to respond to a text message as of the time of filing this report.

Nigerians react to IG video clip

Nigerians have, however, reacted to the video.

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, in his reaction to the video on Twitter, urged Nigerians to pray for Idris.

He said, “Our IG of Police needs prayers and we must treat him with compassion. What happened to him whilst reading his infamous “transmission” speech was not ordinary. He is the victim of dark spirits and satanic forces. We must not gloat over it or laugh at him. Instead we must pray for him.”

But the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Diaspora Matters, Abike Dabiri, on Twitter defended the IG, saying, “This video is definitely doctored.”

Nigerians however asked Dabiri to prove her assertion by posting an original video.

A former head of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Joe Abah, said the IG might be suffering from dyslexia.

@JoeAbah, he tweeted, “If this video is genuine, I’ve been advised the IG may be dyslexic. If that is the case, it is no laughing matter, and not something he should be ridiculed for. A lot of kids are dyslexic. We must ensure that they are not bullied or stigmatised. They too can become IG of Police.”

Abah was, however, countered by critics, who said the symptoms showed by the IGP were not typical of dyslexic patients.

According to a definition by NHS.co.uk, dyslexia is a common learning difficulty that can cause problems with reading, writing and spelling. It’s a “specific learning difficulty”, which means it causes problems with certain abilities used for learning, such as reading and writing. Unlike a learning disability, intelligence isn’t affected.

Police comment on IG video

The Nigerian Police Force has, however, claimed that the video was doctored.

On its Twitter handle during a forum tagged, #AskThePolice, one Dr. Adekola Adewale asked the Force to provide clarification on the video going viral about the IG.

Nigeria Police Force replied, “Thank you for your question. Yes it was doctored. #AskThePolice.”

But a source told Saturday PUNCH that police were being cautious in issuing an official statement to debunk the video in order not to further escalate reactions already generated by the clip.

The source said, “The video was doctored and it was meant to embarrass the Force and the IG. The police don’t want to issue an official statement because no TV station, or newspaper has carried the story. The moment a statement is issued, the doctored video would be revisited and it would escalate things. Even if the police issue an official statement, it may still backfire.”

Another source, a senior police officer, claimed that the Force had “the original version of the doctored video,” dismissing allegations that the police had invited the journalist that released the video.

“The original version of the video is available. As far as I know, the police have not ordered the arrest of anybody in connection with the video. The journalist might say the police invited him, but there was nothing like that. There is nothing like a spell being cast on the IG. Besides, there is nothing like that in law. The video was done mischievously. IG is mentally sound and he has been coming to the office every day after that event was held,” he added.

The officer stated that the video was under investigation, adding that the outcome would determine the next line of action.

The officer sent “the original video” to our correspondent on Friday evening.

But Saturday PUNCH observed that though recorded at the same event, it did not capture where a man, who appeared to be the IG’s personal assistant, assisted the police chief to check the speech he was presenting for correct pronunciation.

APC with Adams Oshomole: A time Bomb - Sani

One need no microscope to identify the serious crack on the political wall holding APC together as a Political Party already caused by the outcome of the various concluded congresses of the party; but the singular issue that may finally seal the coffin of the party is if those forcefully pushing for the chairmanship of Adams Oshomole the immediate past Governor of Edo State succeeds in the scheme.

Oshomole is a good man and very strict on principles no doubt about that, but his chairmanship of APC at this time is a time bomb. Everybody is aware that those pushing for his candidature are not doing so for the general interest of the party but for their selfish interest haven felt under Oyegun, the outgoing chairman, that they were not given a free hand to manipulate the Party to their wishes. What this people seem not to realize is that APC is a conglomerate of varying interests and in order to for the party to succeed all the various interests must be harmonised and accomodated at every given time which is what Oyegun led National Working Committee were doing.

The time frame between now and the Party's National convention slated for june could be a golden opportunity for the party to make the necessary corrections that would save them. APC is on the brinx of total collapse if care is not taken; if those pushing forward Oshomole are not curtailed or stopped completely.

If the APC stakeholders, both the high and the low are correctly and currently feeling the mood and pulse of the members, maybe they would understand the situation and carefully avoid the "Tsunami" that might hit the Party should those pushing Oshomole for chairmanship succeeds.

Majority of the members across the Nation are aggrieved for one reason or the other and the outcome of the various congresses have excalated the greviance in the various quarters; the only thing that can save the situation is the choice of a chairman that would be open and accessible to all interest parties. Who would be the next chairman of APC is the only miracle that can save the party.

Its is not a hidden fact that a National Leader of the Party Ashiwaju Ahmed Tinubu and his camp are the ones behind the candidature of Adams Oshomole. This group have blackmailed President Buhari into submitting to their demands and desires in controlling the Party as that is the only way they can support the Presidents reelection bid. The President looking helpless seems to be agreeing with them. This group being beclouded by their selfish interest failed to accommodate the other interests in the Party and this can only bring doom to the Party even before the election. For APC to succeed, all various interests must be carried along in the choice of the next chairman.

Other groups feeling intimidated by the Tinubu camp with the Presidents reluctant support are just silently waiting for the Party and of cause President Buhari to make the mistake by installing Oshomole then they will explode the bomb and bet me that would be the end of APC as a party.

Come to think of it, with the wealth of experience that Oshomole has acquired over the years as a former Governor, won't it be better the President appoint him a minister in one of the serious ministries like Power or Labour or Transport, those areas that we have so much deficiencies to help rejig his administration. Instead of a mere Party Chairman won't 'Osho' be better off serving this Nation on a wider scope? Pushing the Comrade into a toothless APC chairman is a monumental waste of a great human resources. He should be given the opportunity to serve Nigeria on a higher level. Yes, he is one of the foundation pillars of the Party, but should we use the palm oil meant to eat a full chicken to eat only the tiny legs?

What the ruling Party needs at this point is somebody who is completely neutral from the interest game going on in the Party. Its a critical time for our dear APC and every effort should be made to avoid stepping on the landmines planted all around the party.

The mood of Nigerians is not in the favour of the Party at all and crowning with excalated internal rangling would be suicidal. With the Comrade as chairman the Party would be heading to the grave not even the gutters.

Consensus must be reached to accomodate all the various interests at the National convention. Somebody like Clement Ebri, a one time Governor of the old Cross River should be looked at. He has integrity, he is neutral; strong willed; experienced and above all efficient. He does not belong to any camp and he is a very good manager of people.

With Somebody like Clement Ebri, every nerves in the Party would be calmed because its sure every interest would be at ease. Ebri will receive acceptance among all the stakeholders and members alike. He is a perfect gentle and a true leader. This is the kind of consensus candidature that APC should be pursuing at this juncture.

Knowing very well that Comrade Oshomole is being projected by the Tinubu camp, how would anybody expect the Saraki camp to accept him? What about the interest of the nPDP, how are they sure of their future in the Party? And many other interests right down to the various States, Local Government Areas and Wards.

I pray that the APC stakeholders would come to their senses and do the right thing to save the situation for some of us that look up to the party to bring a good change. I pray that APC won't come from their record breaking achievement as the first party to take over power from an incumbent President to being the shortest ever lived political party in Africa. A stitch in time they say, saves nine.

I call on the President also to please think about the mistake that is about to happen and find a way of convincing the Asiwaju camp to realize the implications attached to the Oshomole chairmanship. I believe they will see reason. Clement Ebri is very a very accommodating gentleman who will surely protect all the interests in the party in such a way that the party might survive and continue to shine. Let common sense prevail and May the Change in Leadership be a Positive Change to all members. Long Live APC.

Wonder no more, a man from Gokwe would reportedly run berserk and assault his wife whenever she failed to thank him every time they had sex

While beating her, he would be accusing her of being ungrateful by failing to acknowledge and appreciate his bedmatics or the extra effort he would have apparently put during love making.

This emerged before Chief Nemangwe’s traditional court where Tichaona Moyo was being accused by his wife Alleta Chipangu of sexually abusing her.

Although Chief Nemangwe whose jurisdiction Moyo’s area falls under was not available for comment, a source who claims to have intimate details of the incident, said Moyo told the gathering that being thanked after sex was an expression of gratitude and acknowledgment that he was good in bed.

He said he wanted to be thanked since his wife was always regretting why she married him while accusing him of being sexually impotent adding that being thanked after sex was testimony that he was satisfying her.

Chipangu said her husband would also abuse her in various ways, including forcing her to suck his manhood.
She said sometimes she refused to thank her husband after sex as she found it awkward.

Said the source: “She said she found that weird as it makes it seem transactional. She further said it also makes it sound like it’s something she has done for him, and not something she has done because she wanted to.”

In defence Moyo said being thanked after love making was magic that works wonders on his level of intimacy.

Moyo reportedly told the court that the words “thank you” boost his confidence, and make him keep coming back for more rounds.

“Men like to know they are appreciated. Even in bed. To me, being thanked after sex is just a sign that I’m good in bed.

I love my wife and I appreciate her a lot, that is why I also want her to appreciate me by saying ‘thank you’ after sex,” Moyo was quoted as having said.

He reportedly maintained that he really wanted his wife to show him that he was good in bed as he always put extra effort during sex.

2019 : Billionaire Oil Tycoon, Arthur Eze Reveals Why Everybody Should Vote For Buhari

Igbere TV learnt that Eze made this commendation while speaking to Journalists in Lokoja, Kogi state adding that the president was on course and needed the support of all Nigerians.

“Anyone who knows President Buhari knows that he is a disciplinarian, allergic to corruption and no president had fought corruption ruthlessly the way Buhari is dealing with it now.

This stand and disposition has portrayed the image of the country in positive manner and the country is now being respected by the international communities,” he said.

A man has been arrested for the rape of a 22-year-old corp member in Niger state, Nigeria

Ogochukwu Namanene, 25, had a crush on the 22-year-old corp member, so he pretended to be a commercial motorcycle rider (okada man) and while taking the corp member to her lodge, he stopped by a bushy area, dragged her into the bush, beat her till she was overpowered, and raped her.

The corp member was serving at Janki Secondary school in Lapai LGA, Niger state. She had traveled to Lagos and on her return to Lapai from Lagos, she took Namanene's bike to her lodge, unaware that he wasn't really a commercial cyclist.

Namanene told Punch Metro that he has "a soft spot" for the victim but did not know how to woo her.

"I was telling her to cooperate with me that I only wanted to express my affection for her but she refused. I beat her mercilessly until she became weak. After raping her, I rode my motorcycle away not knowing that the wrath of the law would catch up with me."

He added; "Honestly, I love the corper but I don’t have the courage to express my affection for her, that was why I forcefully made love to her."

Namanene was apprehended by a team of policemen attached to the Agaie division of the state while trying to escape. The Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, said the suspect has been charged to court.

WE GO TO CLUBS! I give ladies free ride with my company’s car, just to rob them, says 42-year-old driver

The Lagos State police command has arrested a 42-year-old driver, John Ololo, and his partners in crime who used to give stranded ladies lift in order to rob them.

Ololo also confessed that he used the money made from the robberies to augment his monthly salary. The suspect was arrested alongside his gang members, Augustine Emmanuel, 21, and Anayo Oluchwku, 25.

Police said that the gang used to rob ladies returning from clubs of their phones and other valuables. After Ololo conceived the idea of using his company’s car to rob, he recruited Emmanuel and Oluchwku.

Whatever money made during operations was shared equally.

He said:

“My boss usually allows me to take the car home because of where I live. There was always the need to drive to my boss’ home to pick him.

I have been taking the car home for about a year now. Sometimes, when I’m going to the office, I pick passengers along the way. Our modus operandi is to dress well and go to any club.

After clubbing, we would offer ladies free ride; we usually pick two ladies. Once they enter, one of us would bring out a toy gun and threaten to shoot them. We would dispossess them of their valuables.

I have collected many phones from ladies since I started this operation. My monthly salary is N65,000. Unfortunately, the salary is not enough. That was why I decided to use the car to rob.

The money I make from robberies is to supplement my salary.”

On his part, Oluchkwu said:

“Unfortunately, last Saturday, we were returning from one of the clubs when policemen arrested us at Lekki roundabout.”

“When Ololo brought the idea, I didn’t know we would be arrested so soon. It was greed that made me follow him. I have not been involved in a robbery before.”

“I am tempted to cheat on my wife everyday” – Actor, Emeka Okoro

Born again Nollywood actor, Emeka Okoro, who’s one of the few celebrities who left acting for the pulpit, has in a new interview with Showtime celebrity, talked about his conversion, acting career, marriage among others.

According to the actor, Christ is happening in the Nigerian entertainment industry and you no one can take that away – he further disclosed that one can’t even resist when God is interested in one’s case.

Read excerpts from his interview below;

You’ve been away from the industry for a while, what have you been up to?

I have a media outfit that I’ve been running and at the same time I’ve been acting. These days, the movies we make doesn’t really move except they are shown in the cinemas, but I’ve been acting.

You recently became born again like some of your colleagues. What do you think is responsible for Nollywood heavyweights abandoning their acting career to become pastors?

I think Christ is happening in the industry! And you can’t take it away, it’s like a crusade and God is doing it Himself. You can’t even resist it when God is interested in your case; if you don’t want to answer it, frustration comes your way until you answer the divine call.

How did you meet your wife?

We met on set! We became friends at first and along the line we noticed there was chemistry between us and we were connecting. So we became close and I proposed to her.

How have you been able to prevent your marriage from crashing like that of many entertainers?

When you are on the solid rock, when you are in Christ, you don’t have anything to fear anymore. Christ is the base we are standing on and we don’t go outside that principle.

Have you been tempted to go out with another woman since you got married?

That is almost a daily thing and that is why I titled my new movie “Flee”, so you don’t stay there to fight the battle. You have to take off!

ALVAN IKOKU: WHY HIS FACE IS ON NIGERIAN CURRENCY ??

Have you ever wondered why the face of Alvan Ikoku is in Nigerian currency even before those of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Obafemi Awolowo? Who was this great Igbo son and what were his achivements?

Born on August 1, 1900 in Arochukwu, present-day Abia State, from 1911 to 1914, he was educated at the Arochukwu Government Primary School and from 1915 to 1920, he attended Hope Waddell College, Calabar where he was a student under James Emmanuel Aggrey and was mates with Akanu Ibiam and Eyo Eyo Esua. While teaching at Awka, Ikoku earned his University of London degree in Philosophy in 1928, through its external programme.

In 1932, Ikoku established a Co-Educational Secondary School in West Africa: the Aggrey Memorial Secondary School, located in Arochukwu and named after his mentor James E.K. Aggrey, an eminent Ghanaian educationist. In 1946, after several constitutional changes allowing more Nigerians in the legislative chambers, he was nominated to the Eastern Nigeria House of Assembly and assigned to the ministry of education.

In 1947 he became part of the Legislative Council in Lagos as one of three representatives of the Eastern Region. He is celebrated as a revolutionary educationist in Nigeria.

In 1962, he called for an 'Education Bill of Rights' for primary school education to be free for six years nationwide in Nigeria. This was later accepted by the Federal Military Government as from 1976. Today free education to all primary school has been granted. Dr Ikoku still remains a great icon in Nigerian academical development and one of the most outstanding educationists ever had in Nigeria.

The Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education in Owerri, Imo State was named in his honour and of course, his face is emblazoned on the ten naira note (see picture). It was at this school that the first full-fledged Igbo Language Department in Nigeria was established in 1975.

Also, Alvan Ikoku Crescent, University of Lagos Campus, Akoka was named after him. Same with the Alvan Ikoku Hostel at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. A road called Alvan Ikoku Way, in Maitama, Abuja (Capital of Nigeria) was also named after him. Alvanville, opposite Aggrey Memorial College in Arochukwu is named after him and was the site of the funeral of his son, Chimere.
He died on November 18, 1971 at Aba general hospital.

Pastor’s wife loses 21-year-old marriage for sleeping with two church members

A pastor’s wife, Mrs Uzoamaka Ibeneme, on Friday, lost her 21-year-old marriage when an Igando Customary Court in Lagos, dissolved the union on grounds of adultery.

President of the court, Mr Akin Akinniyi, who delivered the judgment, said the petitioner, Pastor Joshua Ibeneme, was adamant in spite of the mediation by the court and family intervention.

He said,

“Since the petitioner insisted on divorce after several interventions, the court is therefore left with no option but to grant him his wish and pronounce the union dissolved.

“The court hereby pronounces the marriage between Pastor Joshua Ibeneme and Mrs. Uzoamaka Ibeneme dissolved today.

“Both of you will henceforth cease to be husband and wife, each of you should go on his or her separate ways unmolested.

“The court wishes both of you well in your future endeavour.

“Any squabble between both of you from now on shall be treated as criminal and any violation of this judgment will be regarded as contempt of court and will attract imprisonment without option of fine.”

Earlier, the 53-year-old had approached the court to end his marriage to the woman, who he said was messing around with church members.

He said,

“My wife had sexual affair with two of my church members, a deacon and a bishop. Both of them were telling my other members that they slept with my wife because she enticed them.

“Whenever I return from a trip, my last born always tells me that men came to pick and drop my wife. Even God told me to divorce her or else she will destroy my ministry.

“My wife starved me of sex for more than five years; whenever I want to sleep with her, she would give one excuse or the other and in fact, she has moved out of my room to a separate room.

“But she gives it to my members freely.”

Meanwhile, a five-year-old marriage between a 35-year-old trader, Bilikisu Azeez, and her husband, Olusesi, was also dissolved by the court on Friday.

Bilikisu had told the court that her husband, Olusesi, starved her of sex for more than two years, a development which, she said, had affected her health.

She said,

“My husband has been starving me of sex since he married his youngest wife; he has turned me to an abandoned property.”

"Being 100% comfortable around somebody is something that is so rare but, when you find it, it Is so beautiful, and safe, and comforting" - Tiwa says, after partying with Wizkid

After social media users failed to relinquish the idea that Tiwa Savage may be dating her colleague, Wizkid, she’s had something to say moments after they were spotted partying together.

Though, Tiwa days back, made their relationship clear after she gave a shoutout to Wizkid, calling him, her ‘bestie’, but then, users on social media aren’t satisfied with that “shoutout” as they all want more than a shoutout from her, to prove that she’s indeed not sleeping with Wiz.
Recently, after partying together, the songstress who was involved in a kinda controversy in the just concluded headies after it was announced that her colleague, Yemi Alade won an award even though it was her name that appeared on the screen, shared something quite interesting on her social media page.

Tiwa Savage said the experience of finding someone you’re comfortable with is though rare, but quite beautiful and safe when one finds it.
This has fans wondering who she possibly be ‘comfortable’ with – with her recent escapades with Wizzy, it’s only right to speculate yet again that he’s this ‘someone’ she’s ‘comfortable’ with.
