Wedding Advice Serena Williams Has for Meghan Markle on Her Wedding Day

The Key Wedding Advice Serena Williams Has for Meghan Markle on Her Wedding Day
More
With Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal wedding just weeks to go, Markle’s good friend Serena Williams shared some vital advice for the happy couple on their big day.

In an interview with Good Morning America, Williams revealed what she learned from tying the knot last fall with her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

“I just think it’s so important to enjoy the moment,” Williams said. “And eat the cake—I didn’t get to eat mine at the wedding. We were just having so much fun!”

Williams also shared good wishes for the royal wedding and soon-to-be princess Markle.

“I’m obviously super happy for her,” Williams said. “She’s such a great girl and she is incredibly nice and I couldn’t be happier for her.”

When it came to talking about whether or not she’ll be heading across the pond for the nuptials next month, however, Williams stayed mum.

“I don’t know, I think it’s during one of the tournaments, I’ll see if I can make it,” she said

Nasarawa State bans street trading, hawking

The Task Force charged with relocating traders to the Muhammadu Buhari International Market, Karu, in Nasarawa State, has banned trading and hawking along the Keffi-Karu-Abuja expressway.

Mr Stanley Buba, Chairman of the Task Force, announced this on Monday in Karu, during a meeting with officials of the Traders and Marketers Association and the National Union of Road Transport Workers.

Buba, also a Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Umaru Almakura, urged traders to move to the Muhammadu Buhari International Market in Karu, to boost sales and improve the state’s revenue base.

“Traders must avoid street trading and hawking; they must move to the market to acquire spaces that will be allocated to them at no cost, on temporary basis.

“When traders move into the market, traffic congestion will be reduced along the Karu-Abuja expressway,” he said.

He warned that defaulters would face the full wrath of the law, and advised the traders to take advantage of the market to improve their business, fight poverty and end unemployment.

Buba said that the ban would take full effect on May 1.

He also warned commercial drivers against parking indiscriminately, saying that anyone caught would be penalised.

Alhaji Shammasu Dantsoho, Chairman, Nasarawa State Traders and Marketers Association, in a speech at the meeting, promised to cooperate with the committee to ensure sanity in the market area.

He also assured the committee that his union would educate and enlighten its members on government policies and the need to support them.

Seeking security support, Buhari meets Trump

Nigeria’s fight against the Boko Haram jihadist group was expected to top the menu for talks Monday when President Donald Trump meets Nigeria’s Muhammadu Buhari, president of Africa’s most populous and wealthiest country.

Buhari will be the first leader from sub-Saharan Africa to visit Trump, and they plan a joint press conference in the White House gardens after their meeting around midday.

In his talks with Trump, Buhari will be seeking support in his battle against Boko Haram, as well as investment in Nigeria’s rickety infrastructure.18-month-old child
Trump, meanwhile, has to overcome the hard feelings left by his insulting reference to “shithole countries” in questioning why the US should accept immigrants from Africa.

The US president also raised eyebrows in March by firing Rex Tillerson as secretary of state while he was visiting Nigeria, in part to prepare the ground for Buhari’s visit.

But Trump’s receiving Buhari at the White House just after visits by France’s Emmanuel Macron and Germany’s Angela Merkel is a positive signal, analysts say.

“The fact that the president of Africa’s most populous country is visiting Washington at all may be more important to strengthening the US-Africa relationship than any discussion of policy during the trip,” said John Campbell, a former US ambassador in Abuja who is now at the Council of Foreign Relations.

Talks on security, business
The White House says both security and business will be up for discussion during the visit.
Nigeria is entering its ninth year fighting Boko Haram extremists, who have devastated the northeast of the country and killed over 20,000 people in a bloody quest to establish an Islamist state.

Trump’s administration has agreed to the sale of a dozen A-29 Super Tucano turboprop light attack aircraft for use in the fight against the jihadist group, a deal worth a reported $496 million.

In January 2017, then-president Barack Obama froze the deal after Nigeria’s air force bombed a refugee camp, killing more than 100 people, on a mission against Boko Haram.

Washington is now ready to allow the sale to go forward. But it has come under scrutiny inside Nigeria, where lawmakers are accusing the president of illegally withdrawing funds to purchase the planes.Nigeria is also seeking support for its farm and transport sectors. Buhari is scheduled to meet with potential investors in Nigerian farming and food processing.

Amid intensifying competition with China and Europeans for the business of oil-rich Nigeria, officials accompanying Buhari also will be meeting with aviation giant Boeing, according to his office.

On Friday, General Electric announced that an international consortium it leads has signed a deal for a $2 billion project to refurbish Nigeria’s narrow-gauge railway.

Both sides have something to gain from the meeting of the two presidents, Peter Pham, director of the Africa Center at the Washington-based Atlantic Council, told AFP.

“On President Trump’s side, it’s definitely putting that controversy behind him,” Pham said, referring to the “shithole countries” remark.

For Buhari, who will seek reelection in 2019, “It’s having the prominence of being the first African leader received at the White House in this administration,” Pham said.

27-year-old man steals 18-month-old child

A 27-year-old man, Segun Tanimola, who allegedly abducted an 18-month-old baby, was on Monday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Tanimola, who gave no fixed address during trial, faces a charge of child-stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Uwadione, told the court that the offence was committed on April 20, at Apata Street, Ita Baale in Shomolu near Lagos.

He said that the accused had abducted the 18-month-old daughter of Mrs Basirat Junaid, who lodged a complaint at the police station.
The accused was allegedly to have whisked her to an unknown destination before he was apprehended.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 277 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The chief magistrate, Mrs A. Ipaye-Nwachukwu, denied bail to the accused and said that he should approach the high court to procure his bail.

She adjourned the case until June 20 for mention.

Kim Kardashian has made her thoughts clear on Tristan Thompson by unfollowing him on social media.

The NBA star, 27, was accused of cheating on Kim’s sister Khloe Kardashian days before she gave birth to their first child together.

The family kept quiet in the wake of the reports, but Kim has now removed Thompson from her Twitter and Instagram accounts.
It comes days after she broke her silence on the cheating scandal, describing it as “f***** up”.

Sad times: Khloe Kardashian and boyfriend Tristan Thompson (Splash News)
Speaking during an appearance on The Ellen Show she said: “Poor Khloé. Like, I don’t even know how to describe it besides it’s just so f***** up.”

Despite her anger, Kim said she doesn’t want to bad mouth Thompson in public as his daughter True might hear it when she is older.

Khloe Kardashian names baby girl 'True'
“We really were rooting for Khloé and we still are,” she said. “She’s so strong and she’s doing the best that she can.

“It’s a really sad situation all over. I kind of made this rule with my brother. If there’s a baby involved, I’m going to keep it cute and classy and try not to say anything negative because one day True is going to see this. It’s just so messed up.”

Thompson has faced a slew of cheating allegations after video footage emerged earlier this month appearing to show him kissing a woman at the PH-D Lounge in New York.

The pair were then reportedly spotted returning to The Four Seasons together before later emerging in different outfits.

He was also accused of cheating with a woman who he has allegedly been spotted with on multiple occasions from as far back as November 2017.

He said the Senator did not consult with his constituents before moving the motion.

maker said, “There is no reason to call for the president’s impeachment. He is doing well. It is difficult to rebuild what was destroyed by PDP during its 16 years administration.

”The president cannot fight insecurity without procuring the fighter jets,” the majority leader said.

Kaduna State High Court adjourns El-Rufai’s defamation suit to June 25

A Kaduna State High Court has adjourned till June 25, the suit on alleged defamation filed against the Union Newspapers by Gov. Nasir El-Rufai.
The adjournment followed the non tendering of the assets declaration documents of Nasir El-Rufai by the Code of Conduct Bureau when he served as Director General, Bureau of Public Enterprises and as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the court had in October 2017 granted an application filed by the defence to add the CCB as witness on subpoena.

However, when the case came up on Monday, the CCB did not produce the documents, prompting the Judge, Justice Mairo Mohammed to adjourn the matter at the behest of the defence.

Counsel to the defendants, H. A Abuul informed the court that the defence was not ready to continue as they were still awaiting for the assets declaration documents from the CCB.

The application was however opposed by the plaintiff counsel, Mr Ossy Ehikioya, who argued that it was a ploy to delay the case.

Ehikioya reminded the court that although the defendants had lined up two witnesses, they were only able to present one since the case began.

The Judge however granted the application and adjourned the matter till June 25, for continuation.

NAN reports that the governor went to court over a report carried by the newspaper in which it allegedly stated that he had declared N90 billion in his CCB assets
declaration form.

Migrant Caravan Arrives At U.S. Border, Despite Trump’s Threats

SAN DIEGO ― The caravan of Central American asylum-seekers that sent the Trump administration into a frenzy of anger began crossing into the United States on Sunday.

The caravan’s organizers, immigrant rights activists and legal observers marched toward International Friendship Park, which straddles the U.S.-Mexico border, as the caravan’s participants marched from Tijuana to San Diego on Sunday morning.

On the U.S. side of the border, a group of about 100 people chanted “No borders! No wall! Sanctuary for all!” as they marched along the beach toward the port of entry. Roughly 200 of their counterparts in Mexico gathered in front of the metal fencing that divides the two countries, with more than a dozen people hoisting themselves atop the barrier.

“We have to push back against this administration,” demonstrator Laiken Jordahl, a borderlands campaigner for the nonprofit Center for Biological Diversity, told HuffPost. “Its culture of hate, bigotry and fear cannot be accepted. The administration doesn’t even talk to us, we had to come out and march.”

Another demonstrator, Roberto Saravia from Los Angeles, said: “This goes back further than the Trump administration. I find it ridiculous that any time there is an issue in the U.S., immigrants get scapegoated, they get mistreated, they get criminalized just for existing. This border is just a divide that shouldn’t be here and I want to see it gone ― it shouldn’t divide us.”

By the afternoon, a group of about 50 of the caravan’s members had begun

crossing into the United States, along with legal advisers, organizers said.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection planned to limit the number of asylum-seekers making claims at the San Ysidro port of entry.

“Depending upon port circumstances at the time of arrival, those individuals may need to wait in Mexico as CBP officers work to process those already within our facilities,” CBP Commissioner Kevin McAleenan said in a statement.

The Trump administration launched a full-court press in anticipation of the caravan’s arrival. The president dispatched the National Guard to the border shortly after railing against the group of migrants. The secretary of homeland security issued a statement likening the organizers to “smugglers.” And the attorney general threatened to prosecute them....
But for all the noise, it remains to be seen whether the White House’s actions will have much of an impact on the roughly 600 Central Americans who plan to present asylum claims.

Trump’s fulminations against the caravan stem from larger concerns he’s expressed since he first started running for president three years ago. He wants the U.S. to stop releasing unauthorized immigrants caught at the border with notices to appear in immigration court instead of uniformly detaining or deporting them — a practice he and his supporters disparagingly call “catch and release.” Sessions is one of his most enthusiastic partners in that project.

Unfortunately for them, ending the practice is not currently possible under U.S. law. When space in detention centers runs out, there’s simply no place to put people who can’t be quickly deported. Many immigrants from Mexico can be deported quickly. But many of the people crossing the border these days are Central American children and families, who aren’t as easy to deport — and generally can’t be detained for long. Unaccompanied children must be released to the Office of Refugee Resettlement, and the mothers cannot usually be locked up with their kids for longer than three weeks due to a federal court order. Migrants have a right to apply for asylum, whether or not they get detained in the process. And immigrants who get picked up within the interior of the country often qualify for bond hearings.
A group of several dozen immigrant rights activists and legal observers march toward the U.S.-Mexico border in San Diego on April 29. They're there to witness the arrival of a caravan of Central American migrants who plan to request asylum in defiance of repeated threats from Trump administration officials. (Matt Ferner/HuffPost)

None of this matters to the Trump administration, whose actions and statements have likened the arrival of a few hundred Central Americans seeking asylum to a national security crisis. In an attempt to deter them, Trump mobilized the National Guard to help patrol the four Southwest border states, despite the fact that its presence will be purely ornamental — the National Guard can’t make immigration arrests, and the caravan’s members plan to travel through legal ports of entry.
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen chipped in with a similarly aggressive but toothless statement Wednesday, saying the department was “monitoring” the caravan’s movements. She encouraged asylum-seekers to stay in Mexico.

“Let me be clear,” Nielsen’s statement says. “We will enforce the immigration laws as set forth by Congress. If you enter our country illegally, you have broken the law and will be referred for prosecution. If you make a false immigration claim, you have broken the law and will be referred for prosecution. If you assist or coach an individual in making a false immigration claim, you have broken the law and will be referred for prosecution.”

Nielsen’s repeated statements targeting the caravan met with criticism from Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), the ranking member of the House Committee on Homeland Security.

“It’s overkill,” Thompson told HuffPost. “You would have expected [Trump] to have been briefed by intelligence officials exactly who was headed this way. … We know who they are. We know where they are. And we even know why they’re coming. So to try to elevate this into some heightened sense of threat, it just didn’t measure up.”

More
Sessions had his own response to the caravan, issuing a statement Monday saying he’d “directed our U.S. Attorneys at the border to take whatever immediate action to ensure that we have sufficient prosecutors available.”

It’s unclear what practical consequences any of these threats will have. The people whom Nielsen accuses of “coaching” the caravan’s members are lawyers and immigrant rights advocates counseling migrants about the process for claiming asylum. And crossing through a legal port of entry to ask for asylum, as the caravan’s members plan to do, doesn’t expose them to prosecution, as Sessions contends.

“It’s typical anti-immigrant fear-mongering,” said Alex Mensing, a project coordinator for the caravan’s main organizing group, Pueblos Sin Fronteras. “The right-wing media and the administration have been trying really hard to make it look like there are no legitimate asylum-seekers, and that’s just not true. And it’s not for them to decide anyway.”

President Buhari extends vacation

President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the National Assembly informing it of his  desire to extend his vacation.

President Buhari who left Nigeria on 19 January was scheduled to return today and resume work tomorrow.

But in a statement by Femi Adesina, the special adviser on the media, the president said he would be prolonging the leave  to complete and receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors. Adesina did not indicate when the vacation will now end.

According to Adesina, the President had planned to return to Abuja Sunday evening, but was advised to complete the test cycle before returning.

“The notice has since been dispatched to the Senate President, and Speaker, House of Representatives”, Adesina said.

“Mr. President expresses his sincere gratitude to Nigerians for their concern, prayers and kind wishes”, he added.

While away, the social media have been writing several fictitious stories about the President’s health. Some reports said the President was dead, others said he was in intensive care, while another even said he was stopped from committing suicide.
Government spokesmen have debunked all the fake news and warned Nigerians to desist from being purveyors of falsehood. The President, according to the spokesmen, is hale and hearty and is in UK for routine medical checks.

On Friday, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, weighed in and called the Buhari’s death wishers, wicked, callous, treacherous and abnormal.

Obasanjo said the Nigerians behind the despicable acts ought to be praying for Buhari’s ”quick recovery” and return to Nigeria.

The ex-President made his position known in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, through his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi.
”Instead of embarking on such worrisome declaration, all that the President needed “are our prayers and best wishes, which will ginger his morale to come back more stronger and better.

“No normal human being will wish an elderly person dead irrespective of their differences.

“If you don’t like him, wait for another election, not going about to say he is dead.

“No matter his health situation, we should pray for him to recover quick and come back more stronger and better. For anyone wishing him dead, such person or group of persons are callous, wicked and treacherous.

“I was also rumoured to have died almost 12 times. I don’t know what they derive from doing so, but they should seek for forgiveness.

Sex-for-marks: CPC commends OAU over proper handling of case

The Consumer Protection Council has commended prompt actions by the management of Obafemi Awolowo University in the alleged sexual harassment of one of its female students.

The Director-General of CPC, Mr. Babatunde Irukera, gave the commendation on Monday in a statement signed by Mr. Abiodun Obimuyiwa, CPC Head of Media.

Irukera said the council had keenly followed the raging controversy regarding the sexually and emotionally abusive conduct of demanding, and or providing sexual gratification in exchange for favourable grades in school.

He noted that the widely discussed controversy underscored an allegedly pervasive practice.

Recently, there had been a leaked and widely circulated audio clip that appeared to have captured a telephonic conversation or ‘negotiation’ between a female student and a member of the faculty at OAU, Ile Ife.

The audio clip had been authenticated and both the member of the faculty and student/victim had been identified.

According to Irukera, “CPC notes the prompt actions taken by the authorities of OAU and commends the responsiveness so far displayed, in addressing a rather insidious and predatory incident.

“The Council further welcomes the expressed commitment of OAU to an open and transparent investigation, as well as the promise to publish the outcome of the investigation.

“The Council encourages OAU to ensure this investigation is broad, balanced and inclusive.”

Irukera urged the management of the school to include people and views from all relevant stakeholders in handling the case to promote confidence, equity and fairness.

He named such stakeholders to include faculty, professional disciplinary bodies, student representation, relevant civil society specialising in sexual harassment, gender objectification, consumer protection and institutions such as the National Human Rights Commission.

Popular Food Vendor Falsely Accused of Using Water From Mortuary to Cook at Oko Polytechnic

A food vendor was left in shock and went to tears after she was being accused of using mortuary water to cook food at the Federal Polytechnic Oko in Anambra state.
A journalist, by name Ngwu Victor Bright, has visited the food vendor known as Nwanyi Nanka and consoled her over what he labeled a rumor that have spoiled her image.

Read what Ngwu Victor Bright shared on Facebook;

CONSPIRACY &PROPAGANDA!

CHARACTER ASSASSINATION

This woman here is called NWANYI NANKA, every Staffs and student in Fed Poly Oko know what am saying. She sells foods like Rice, Beans, Plantain, Meat etc. She cooks like three coolers of rice every day but finishes selling before 2 pm.

WHAT MADE HER FOOD OUTSTANDING? Nwanyi Nanka is a very jovial and neat woman, she serves food as mothers serve food for their children, the meat she serves is so sizeable that it can make three slices of meat compared to other sellers.

She even sells on credit to students whom she knows cannot afford it at that moment. These features made her very outstanding more than any other seller and this brought jealousy and envy among her co-food sellers. Some lecturers cannot settle down without demanding for her food including students.

Just about two days ago some students were paid to tarnish her image, they went to social media proclaiming that some group of Police invaded the school and arrested Nwanyi Nanka for using water from the mortuary to cook, they added that it has been confirmed fact.
He continued,

When I saw this on Facebook and WhatsApp, I couldn’t believe it, as a certified journalist I had to wait until the next morning and I called one of my students and asked her to check if Nwanyi Nanka is at her shop, she confirmed that she was there but added she has been crying since morning because she came to sell as usual not knowing what people have done with her name, students gathered in ewe watching her as a thief just for her to discover what her enemies have done with her name.
I spoke with her and consoled her also but why on earth will someone be so wicked to tarnish someones hard earned reputation. This world is so cruel and some students including some mass com students who are supposed to verify the rumors couldn’t wait for verification instead they started broadcasting and feeding people with fallacy.

This in journalism is called defamation and a very punishable offence. PLEASE DON’T ALWAYS JUMP INTO CONCLUSION, ALWAYS VERIFY EVERY INFORMATION. THANKS.

Disturbing Photos: SS1 Female student stabs classmate in the eye for refusing to join their cult

An SS1 female student identified as Josephine, along with her gang members have allegedly damaged the right eye of one Lilian Friday.

She is also an SS1 student of Community Secondary School, Otuoke, Bayelsa State.

The bizzare incident which occurred yesterday evening left many shocked as it was revealed that the suspected cultist, also an SS1 student of the same secondary school is said to have been mounting pressure and persuading Lilian to join her cult group.
The victim’s persistent refusal provoked the suspect and she vowed to disfigure Lillian’s face.

Lilian was attacked late yesterday, while returning from her uncle’s residence place when she met her classmate who insisted that she must join her cult group.

Consequently, the two classmates started fighting, and then the suspect alerted her gang members, who came along and had the victim held to the ground, stabbed her right eye and then took off.

Sadly, efforts to arrest the suspect have not been successful, as the Otuoke community is yet to grant arrest warrant to the parents of the victim, because it is against their practice for someone to make arrest in the community without the approval of its leadership.
